King David | Four Gospels | 40 Instances

There are 40 references to King David in the Four Gospels {Matthew, Mark, Luke, John}. Note that 39 of these instances contain the name 'David'. One instance (#7) refers to David as the ‘the Great King’ (Matt. 5:35)

2, 3. And Jesse begat [David 2] the king; and [David 3] the king begat Solomon from her ~ of Uriah; Matthew 1:6
 
4, 5. So all the generations from Abraham to [David 4] are fourteen generations; and from [David 5] until the carrying away into Babylon are fourteen generations; and from the carrying away into Babylon unto The Christ are fourteen generations. Matthew 1:17
 
6. But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of The Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of [David 6], fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for That Which Is Conceived in her is of The Holy Spirit. Matthew 1:20

The Holy Scriptures distinguish between the earthly Jerusalem and the Heavenly. The earthly Jerusalem which is referred to as the City of David is a TYPE (as in typology) of the Heavenly Jerusalem and David himself typologizes Christ Who is The Son of David.
 
8. And when Jesus departed thence, two blind men followed Him, crying, and saying, Thou Son of [David 8], have mercy on us. Matthew 9:27

(7)  The Great King is of course The Lord Himself - but we observe here two Typologies: [1] that between King David and Christ who is of the Seed of David who David calls Lord and is The King of kings, and [2] that of the Earthly Jerusalem which is repeatedly called the 'City of David' in the Holy Scriptures, and the Heavenly Jerusalem which is from above. '25For this Agar is mount Sinai in Arabia, and answereth to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children. 26But Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all.' - Galatians 4
